18 years Old Jailed for Stealing Pregnant Goat In Kaduna

An 18-year-old boy, Gado Adamu, has been sentenced by a customary court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, for stealing a pregnant goat an incident that has sparked widespread reactions over justice and proportionality in Nigeria.

The judgment was delivered on Thursday. 19 March 2026 by Magistrate Patience Baryat after the defendant pleaded guilty to charges of theft and unlawful possession of a firearm. The court handed Adamu a combined sentence of five months imprisonment, with options of fines attached to both counts.

According to the prosecution, the case was reported on 2 February 2026, after Adamu was caught in Zankan village with the stolen pregnant goat valued at ₦160,000. He was also found in possession of an unlicensed dane gun.
