The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed more than 329,000 kilogrammes of illicit drugs, with an estimated street value of N301 billion, in Lagos as part of its continued campaign against drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria.

The destruction exercise, carried out in Lagos, involved large quantities of narcotic substances seized by the agency during its enforcement operations.

The development underscores the scale of the illicit drug trade and the continued efforts by security authorities to prevent dangerous substances from reaching communities.

The NDLEA has intensified its operations at Nigeria’s airports, seaports, borders and other locations considered vulnerable to drug trafficking.

The agency has also continued to arrest suspected traffickers and intercept consignments of cocaine, cannabis, opioids and other controlled substances.

The destruction of the seized drugs is expected to prevent the substances from being recycled into the illegal market after the completion of relevant legal and evidentiary procedures.

The agency has repeatedly warned drug traffickers that Nigeria will not become a safe haven for the illegal narcotics trade, while urging members of the public to support efforts against drug abuse.
