The Allied Peoples Movement has recorded a sweeping victory in the Bauchi State local government elections, winning all 20 chairmanship positions declared by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission.
The APM also dominated the councillorship contests, securing 319 of the 323 seats contested across the state.
The results were announced by the BASIEC Chairperson, Jummai Abubakar, following the completion of voting, counting, collation and verification.
Declaring the results, Abubakar said, “Following the conclusion of voting, counting, collation and verification, I, Jummai Abubakar, Chairperson of BASIEC, hereby declare that all 20 APM candidates emerged victorious as Chairmen of the respective Local Government Areas.”
In Alkaleri Local Government Area, Bappah Aliyu emerged victorious with 107,482 votes, while Umar Mohammed won Bauchi LGA with 125,170 votes. Zakka Luka secured Bogoro LGA with 25,282 votes.
Iliya Isah won Dambam with 19,730 votes, while Ya’u Sade secured Darazo with 67,276 votes. Mohammed Jibo emerged victorious in Dass with 35,264 votes.
Other winners included Ali Babayo in Gamawa with 54,423 votes; Mohammed Idris in Ganjuwa with 24,150 votes; Mustapha Musa in Giade with 33,864 votes; Dankawuwa Ya’u in Itas/Gadau with 24,989 votes; and Inuwa Abdullahi in Jama’are with 36,766 votes.
Yusuf Babayo Zaki won Katagum with 65,626 votes, while Garba Musa secured Kirfi with 24,787 votes. Salisu Hussaini won Misau with 34,378 votes, while Yahuza Adamu Haruna emerged victorious in Ningi with 29,387 votes.
In Shira, former Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Saleh Hodi, polled 37,135 votes.
Sama’ila Wakili won Tafawa Balewa with 46,625 votes, while Abubakar Ibrahim Dembo secured Toro with 109,999 votes. Habibu Idris won Warji with 43,066 votes, while Mas’ud Aliyu emerged victorious in Zaki with 19,984 votes.
Four Councillorship Seats Go To Other Parties
Despite APM’s overwhelming performance, four councillorship seats were won by other political parties.
The Social Democratic Party won Dandango Ward in Bauchi LGA, while the National Rescue Movement secured Darazo South Ward in Darazo LGA.
The Zenith Labour Party won Wandi Ward in Dass LGA, while the Young Progressive Party took Zirami Ward in Giade LGA.
BASIEC said the successful candidates had been confirmed as duly elected after meeting the applicable legal requirements and obtaining the highest number of valid votes in their respective constituencies.
Abubakar commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his support to the electoral commission and maintained that the elections were conducted independently and in accordance with the law.
She also congratulated Bauchi residents and the successful candidates on the conclusion of the local government elections.
