Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Seyi Makinde, has appointed communication strategist and lawyer Anthony Ehilebo as his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The appointment was announced on Thursday in Ibadan by Makinde’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, who said it took immediate effect.

Ehilebo’s appointment comes as Makinde intensifies preparations for his presidential bid and begins to assemble the team expected to drive his campaign communication across traditional and digital platforms.

Makinde said Ehilebo’s experience in communication strategy and law would be valuable to his campaign as it seeks to communicate the APM’s agenda to Nigerians.

He urged Nigerians to support the APM, describing the 2027 election as an opportunity to change the direction of the country.

“With unity, courage, and determination, we will reclaim Nigeria’s destiny and deliver the future our people deserve,” Makinde said.

The governor also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress, urging voters to reject what he described as its failed leadership and support the APM’s proposed political alternative.

The appointment is expected to place greater emphasis on digital communication as the 2027 election campaign gathers momentum, with political parties increasingly relying on social media and other online platforms to reach voters.

Makinde formally entered the 2027 presidential race on May 14, 2026, announcing his candidacy at a rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan.

At the declaration, he said, “Today, I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the PDP/APM alliance.”

The governor has since continued to position himself as an alternative to the major political forces ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.

Olarenwaju said further appointments to Makinde’s campaign team would be announced subsequently.
