2027: We Must Unite to Defeat Tinubu, Donald Duke Tells Opposition

Former Cross River State Governor and PRP presidential candidate, Donald Duke, has urged opposition parties and political actors seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to put aside their differences and work together.

Speaking on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast, Duke said the incumbent naturally has an advantage because political power is concentrated around the government in power.

According to him, “even if the APC did nothing, right? They’re the party in power. If the problem on that day, the IG of police will not go to any of the contestants. He’ll go to the president. So everything is skewed in favor of the incumbent. Respect that.”

Duke said the opposition must unite if it hopes to defeat the incumbent, adding, “The only way you can seriously charge, tackle the incumbent, is to come together to tackle. Otherwise you will factionalize. So I think when you talk of rigging, we’re rigging it against ourselves without, you know, without because of our ego. We need to come together if you really want to take out.”

Describing President Bola Tinubu as a formidable political opponent, Duke said, “Look, Bola Tinubu is not the average politician, right? All I know is that he is not the run-of-the-mill politician, right?”

He further illustrated his point with an analogy, saying, “So you don’t go to fight a lion who also has horns. No, no, no. Listen to this. Can you imagine a lion with a horn? Yes, right? It’s already a dangerous animal. Then you now give it a horn and you say go and fight it with knife and fork. You’ll be the dinner. So let’s get real.”
