2027: Nwifuru Threatens to Remove Ebonyi LG Chairmen Who Fail to Deliver APC Victory

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has warned local government chairpersons that they risk losing their positions if they fail to deliver victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in their respective councils during the 2027 elections.

Nwifuru issued the warning on Tuesday in Abakaliki, the state capital, while inaugurating the newly elected chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of the state’s 13 local government areas.

The governor said any council chairman who failed to secure victory for the APC in his or her local government would be removed and replaced by a councillor.

“Any chairman who fails to win his council will be removed from office and replaced with a councillor. I want this information to be on the headlines of newspapers because, as politicians, we would not speak in secret,” Nwifuru said.

He urged the chairpersons to remain politically active in their respective councils and prevent opposition parties from gaining ground ahead of the 2027 elections.

Nwifuru directed them to work towards delivering 100 per cent votes for the APC in their local government areas, stressing that they should not become complacent.

He also advised the chairpersons to maintain a good working relationship with their deputies and avoid unnecessary rivalry that could affect the administration of their councils.

Addressing the vice-chairpersons, the governor urged them to support the substantive chairpersons and remain prepared to assume responsibility when necessary.

He warned them against allowing rumours and external influences to create conflict between them and their chairpersons.

Nwifuru cited the political rise of his deputy as an example of how effective performance at the local government level could create opportunities for higher public office.

He said his deputy had previously served as a council chairperson and performed well enough to gain recognition before eventually becoming deputy governor.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated chairpersons, the chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Timothy Nwachi, thanked the governor and APC stakeholders for the opportunity to serve.

Nwachi pledged that the new council leaders would justify the confidence placed in them and work towards securing a landslide victory for the APC in Ebonyi State in 2027.

Among the newly inaugurated chairpersons are Osborne Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and Chidi Nwode, who is related to Governor Nwifuru’s wife.
