ADC Picks Amaechi as Atiku’s Running Mate for 2027 

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has named former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election.

The party announced the decision on Monday, describing the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a strategic alliance aimed at presenting Nigerians with an alternative leadership platform ahead of the next general election.

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said Amaechi’s selection followed consultations among party stakeholders, coalition partners and political leaders across the country.

According to him, the former Rivers governor’s extensive experience in governance, coupled with his performance during the party’s presidential primary, played a key role in the decision.

The party noted that the partnership combines decades of experience in public administration, economic management and national politics, positioning the ticket to address pressing challenges facing the country.

ADC also highlighted Amaechi’s political influence across the South-South and other parts of the country, saying his emergence would strengthen the party’s nationwide appeal and support efforts to build a broad-based coalition ahead of the 2027 polls.

The party said the presidential ticket would focus on economic revival, job creation, security improvement and national cohesion.

Amaechi, a former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, served as governor of Rivers State between 2007 and 2015 before becoming Minister of Transportation from 2015 to 2023.

With the announcement, ADC has formally unveiled its presidential ticket as preparations intensify for what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 election.
