Adeleke, Accord Party Throw Weight Behind Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the national leadership of the Accord Party have endorsed President Bola Tinubu as the party’s preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election, saying continuity is necessary to complete key infrastructure projects across the country.

The endorsement followed a meeting between the governor and the party’s leadership in Osogbo on Saturday, according to a statement issued by Adeleke’s re-election campaign spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi.

The party said it backed Tinubu’s re-election because it wants ongoing federal projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, to be completed.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming Osun governorship election, with party leaders warning against political violence, voter intimidation, electoral manipulation and the alleged misuse of security agencies during the poll.

In a related development, non-indigenous residents from southern states, as well as Benue and Plateau, declared their support for Governor Adeleke’s re-election during a town hall meeting in Ede. The gathering reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and the state’s development.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command has declared five suspected political thugs wanted over recent violence that claimed several lives and destroyed property in parts of the state.

Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi identified the suspects as Dauda Olamilekan (Emir), Taoreed (Small Rugged), Adetunji Kamoru Olatunde, Saka Afees (Terror), and Adeyemi Saheed, urging members of the public to provide information that could lead to their arrest.

Also on the campaign trail, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun, Bola Oyebamiji, appealed to Christian voters to judge him by his competence rather than his religion.

“As citizens, we all have a responsibility to elect leaders based on competence, integrity, character, vision and capacity to serve—not on sentiment, ethnicity or religious affiliation alone,” Oyebamiji said.

He added that although he is a Muslim, he would govern the state in line with the Constitution, the rule of law, fairness, justice and equity if elected.

To strengthen its push for victory in the Osun governorship election, the APC also unveiled a 276-member National Campaign Council, naming Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as chairman. The party said the council, supported by several specialised subcommittees, would coordinate campaign strategy and mobilise support across the state.
