The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has placed Nollywood actress and producer Shirley Igwe on indefinite suspension for alleged violent conduct and gross indiscipline on a movie set.
According to reports, Igwe physically assaulted a crew member during a production in Lagos, culminating in a heated altercation in which she reportedly slapped the individual.
In a statement issued by Ifeoma Okeke, Chief of Staff to the AGN National President, the guild strongly condemned the incident and urged the actress to tender an apology to the victim.
“Following our preliminary investigation into the allegation of violence leveled against actress Shirley Igwe on a film set in Lagos, the National Executive Council has resolved to place her on indefinite suspension,” the statement read.
The AGN described her actions as unprofessional and damaging to the image of the industry. Members of the guild have also been instructed to refrain from engaging in any productions involving the actress.
