Anambra Landlord Arrested Over Death of Nursing Student

The Anambra State Police Command has taken a landlord into custody for questioning as investigations continue into the suspected murder of a 23-year-old nursing student whose body was discovered in her residence in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area.

The Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered an accelerated investigation into the tragic death of the young woman, whose lifeless body was found within the compound where she lived as a tenant.

The case has since been transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a comprehensive and discreet probe.

Police said the incident was first reported on June 14, 2026, after residents discovered the student’s body at her residence. Preliminary findings at the scene revealed a deep cut on her thigh, multiple signs of violence on her body, and bloodstains around the premises, raising strong suspicions of foul play.

Further investigations identified the deceased as a student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor.

In a move aimed at assisting the investigation, the landlord of the property has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated by detectives.

The police added that the victim’s body has been deposited in a mortuary pending an autopsy, which is expected to provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Describing the incident as deeply disturbing, CP Orutugu directed investigators to conduct a thorough and professional inquiry, stressing that every lead must be pursued to uncover the truth and bring anyone responsible to justice.

He also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased and her grieving family.

The Commissioner urged members of the public with useful information that could aid the investigation to come forward, assuring them that all credible leads would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
