Atiku Raises Alarm Over Mysterious Credit Alert, Suspected Data Breach

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has alerted security agencies after a suspicious deposit was made into one of his private bank accounts, raising concerns over the possible compromise of his confidential banking information.

The alarm was raised in a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, who said the transfer originated from an individual unknown to the former Vice President.

According to Shaibu, the transaction carried the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign,” despite the fact that Atiku neither solicited nor authorised the payment.

He stressed that neither the former Vice President nor his campaign team had any knowledge of the individual or organisation responsible for the transfer.

“The circumstances surrounding the transfer are deeply troubling to His Excellency,” the statement said, adding that the bank account involved is a strictly private account whose details are not publicly available.

Shaibu questioned how confidential banking information belonging to a private citizen could have found its way into the hands of unknown persons.

He warned that if the private banking details of a former Vice President and presidential candidate could be accessed without authorisation, then the financial privacy of ordinary Nigerians could also be at risk.

The statement further suggested that the account details may have been obtained through individuals with privileged access, describing such a possibility as a serious abuse of power if established.

According to Shaibu, any unauthorised disclosure of private banking information could expose account holders to security threats, including kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, fraud and other criminal activities.

He also described the incident as part of a series of suspicious developments ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging Nigerians not to be distracted by what he characterised as attempts to tarnish Atiku’s reputation.

“Such desperate antics have failed before and will fail again,” the statement added, insisting that the Waziri of Adamawa remains focused on presenting what it described as credible leadership and practical solutions to Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
