Bandits Abduct 40 Residents In Fresh Zamfara Attack 

More than 40 residents have reportedly been abducted following a series of attacks by armed bandits on communities in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The attacks, which reportedly lasted four consecutive days, forced residents to flee Tashar Mayanchi and more than 10 surrounding communities, leaving many villages largely deserted.

Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the development in a post shared on X on Thursday, stating that over 40 victims remain in captivity after the raids.

According to him, the sustained attacks have triggered mass displacement, with frightened residents abandoning their homes in search of safety as insecurity continues to worsen in the area.

Bakatsine warned that the continued occupation of the affected communities by bandits could expose the Zamfara–Sokoto highway to further attacks and isolate neighbouring settlements.

“Repeated bandit attacks forced residents to flee Tashar Mayanchi and over 10 surrounding communities in Maru LGA, leaving once-thriving villages largely deserted. More than 40 people are still in captivity after four straight days of attacks,” he said.

He also expressed concern over the growing influence of criminal gangs in the region, questioning how many more communities would have to be displaced before stronger security measures are put in place.
