Bandits Attack Kwara Police Station, Emir’s Palace, Abduct 10 Residents

Armed bandits in the early hours of Monday launched a coordinated attack on the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting no fewer than 10 residents.

The incident, which occurred around 2:00 a.m., was confirmed by the Kwara State Police Command in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

According to the statement, the attackers struck the community in a well-coordinated operation, targeting both the police facility and the traditional ruler’s palace. The assailants also reportedly set part of the Emir’s palace ablaze, causing panic among residents.

However, the police said operatives stationed at the divisional headquarters successfully repelled the attack on the police facility, preventing what could have been further destruction.

Despite the resistance, the attackers were said to have abducted 10 persons before fleeing into nearby forested areas.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a joint security operation involving police tactical teams, forest guards, and local vigilante groups to track down the attackers and rescue the kidnapped victims.

The police commissioner assured residents that efforts were underway to secure the safe return of the abducted persons and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“These criminals have declared war on peaceful communities, but we are fully prepared to hunt them down and bring them to justice,” he was quoted as saying.

Security presence has since been intensified in the affected area, as authorities continue efforts to restore calm and prevent further attacks in Kaiama and surrounding communities.
