Bandits Kidnap Seven School Students In Zamfara Polytechnic Attack

Seven students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, were attacked and abducted by suspected bandits at their off-campus residence in the Low-Cost area.

The Chairman of Kaura Namoda LGA, Hon. Mannir Haidara Kaura, confirmed the incident, saying security operatives had begun rescue efforts.

“The incident occurred, and security operatives are currently carrying out rescue operations to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped students,” he said.

Student Ibrahim Ahmad said one victim escaped, leaving three males and three females still held. A local group, Concerned Citizens of Kaura Namoda, blamed rising insecurity and alleged repeated attacks by bandit leader Kachalla Bello Dansadiya’s gang.

They cited past abductions, including two lecturers held for over two months despite ransom, as well as kidnappings of residents and a district head near a military base.

“Alarmingly, all these victims are reportedly still being held in a well-known bandit camp around Dajin Yamma, yet no rescue operations have taken place. Where are the fighter jets and armoured vehicles?” the group queried.

Police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar confirmed the attack, saying efforts had been intensified to rescue the victims. He added that one student escaped while six remain in captivity, stressing the school premises were not breached.

“The school premises have been fortified with adequate security personnel, making it extremely difficult for bandits to penetrate,” he said.

He explained that a student reportedly left a door open at night while going out, allowing the attackers in. Security forces under the VCRU and Operation Fansan Yamma are currently conducting rescue operations.
