Bauchi Police Arrest Suspect for Alleged Murder of Community Leader

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Clement Anthony, in connection with the alleged murder of the Mai Anguwan Ngas, Jacob Bature, in Unguwar Ngas, Inkil area of Bauchi metropolis.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred on Saturday, 19th July 2026, at about 7:00 p.m., when the suspect allegedly armed himself with a locally made single-barrel gun and shot the 55-year-old community leader in the ribs.

The victim was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where medical personnel confirmed him dead. His remains have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

The statement explained that police operatives responded swiftly to the incident, arrested the suspect, and recovered the locally made firearm allegedly used in the attack, along with one expended cartridge.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, while the suspect is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that those responsible for violent crimes are brought to justice. He also urged members of the public to refrain from unlawful possession of firearms and to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
