Boat Carrying Over 200 People Capsizes On River Niger

A boat carrying more than 200 persons has reportedly capsized along the Dambo-Ebuchi sections of River Niger.

The boat capsized on Friday morning, November 29, along the Dambo-Ebuchi section of River Niger while carrying traders and farmers heading to Katcha for the weekly market.

Local divers are leading rescue efforts, with eight bodies recovered so far.

This comes less than two months after a similar accident in Mokwa LGA, Niger State, where 42 lives were lost.

On 1 October, another boat carrying over 200 passengers capsized, with 150 reportedly rescued.
