Boko Haram Kills Eight Soldiers, Beheads Scores in Borno Fresh Attack

At least eight Nigerian soldiers have been killed following a deadly attack by Boko Haram insurgents on a military base along the Mandara–Buratai Road in Borno State.

According to military sources, the attack occurred in the early hours of Friday during a heavy downpour, with insurgents reportedly launching a surprise assault on troops stationed at the location.

A source within the military said the terrorists stormed the base around 4 a.m., taking advantage of the poor weather conditions to launch the operation.

“The attackers struck while it was raining heavily. Eight soldiers were killed during the encounter,” the source disclosed.

Another security source alleged that the insurgents briefly overran parts of the facility and carried out a brutal attack on personnel stationed there. Several soldiers were also said to have sustained injuries during the assault.

The attackers reportedly arrived in large numbers, overwhelming troops and causing significant damage before security reinforcements were deployed to the area.

Military authorities have since launched efforts to assess the full extent of the casualties, secure the affected location, and prevent further attacks.

The incident is the latest in a series of renewed offensives by Boko Haram and fighters linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) against military formations across Nigeria’s North-East region. The attacks come despite ongoing counterinsurgency operations aimed at degrading the capabilities of insurgent groups operating in the area.

As of the time of filing this report, military authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the attack. However, security operations in the affected area have reportedly been intensified following the incident.

The latest assault underscores the persistent security challenges facing communities and military personnel in the North-East, where insurgent groups continue to target both civilian and military installations.
