Boko Haram Responsible for Gamboru Mosque Bomb Attack in Maiduguri

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that Boko Haram insurgents were responsible for the deadly bombing at the Gamboru Juma’at Mosque in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The confirmation was made on Thursday by the Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai after investigations into the attack, which occurred during Maghrib prayers on Wednesday. The explosion caused panic among worshippers and resulted in multiple casualties.

In a statement, the Theatre Command spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said preliminary findings indicated that a suspected Boko Haram bomber detonated an improvised explosive device inside the mosque, killing himself and two civilians at the scene.

He explained that victims of the blast were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital and the Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri, where two other injured worshippers were later confirmed dead. Uba disclosed that 32 civilians sustained varying degrees of injuries, with two currently in critical condition, while others are stable and receiving treatment.

Uba added that troops, alongside the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, other security agencies, the Borno State Government and NEMA, swiftly secured and cordoned off the area. He reassured residents of Maiduguri and surrounding communities that security has been intensified to prevent further attacks, especially during the festive season.
