After weeks of back and forth, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda has finally resigned as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, paving the way for the controversial return of Mudashiru Obasa, who was ousted over allegations of corruption and abuse of power.

Meranda tendered her resignation during Monday’s plenary session following intense pressure from All Progressives Congress (APC) powerbrokers, including President Bola Tinubu and Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi.

Her exit marks a major victory for Obasa, who had been aggressively pushing for reinstatement despite strong opposition from lawmakers.

Report says that APC leaders had been pressuring Meranda to step down, despite resistance from lawmakers who insist that Obasa’s reinstatement was a betrayal of their push for accountability and transparency in the Assembly

Meanwhile, Mudashiru Obasa has been reinstated as the speaker of the Lagos state house of assembly.

He was sworn in on Monday after Mojisola Meranda resigned as the speaker.
