Nigerian comedian and actor Samuel Perry, widely recognised as Broda Shaggi, has broken his silence after spending several months away from the public eye.

The entertainer, who had become less visible on social media and at public events, reached out to his followers on Friday with an emotional message acknowledging the people who continued to support him throughout his absence.

Shaggi did not give details about what led to his withdrawal from public activities. Instead, he expressed gratitude to fans who continued to check on him and remained interested in his wellbeing.

He said their support had been particularly meaningful because he had not been able to maintain the level of interaction they were accustomed to.

“To everyone who’s still here… waiting, checking in, showing love, and holding me down even through the silence, thank you,” he said.

The comedian added that his inability to remain active had not been a reflection of his feelings towards his audience.

“Even when I haven’t been able to show up the way I wanted to, knowing that y’all are still here has meant more than I can put into words,” he said.

He withholds details of what happened

Although Shaggi’s return to public communication has reassured some fans, he has chosen not to explain the circumstances behind his long absence.

He indicated that there was more to his story but said he was not prepared to disclose everything at the moment.

“I wish I could tell y’all everything right now… but I can’t. Not yet,” he said.

The comedian, however, assured his followers that he had not forgotten them and still looked forward to reconnecting with them fully.

“Just know I haven’t forgotten about you, and I haven’t stopped thinking about the day I can finally come back and really be ME with y’all again. I’m hoping that day comes soon,” he added.

Shaggi also hinted that his next appearance would mark a fresh beginning after the period he has spent away.

“And when it does, I promise I’m coming back better, stronger, and ready to make up for all this lost time,” he said.

He concluded by expressing deep appreciation to those who had remained patient with him.

His disappearance followed shooting controversy

Shaggi’s prolonged absence followed reports of an alleged shooting involving him while he was reportedly working on a comedy production.

The incident reportedly occurred around Sango-Ota, Ogun State, and generated considerable concern among his fans.

Police authorities in Ogun said at the time that they were looking into the report but could not confirm that the comedian had been shot within the state.

Oluseyi Babaseyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, urged the public to allow investigators to establish the facts.

“For the sake of clarity, the command cannot confirm that Broda Shaggy was shot anywhere within Ogun State. Investigation into the matter has, however, commenced,” he said.

The police also warned against circulating claims that had not been verified.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command said it had been alerted by a hospital concerning a patient receiving treatment for a gunshot injury.

Officers who visited the facility identified the patient as Shaggi and established that he had sustained an injury to his thigh.

The command, however, pointed out that Sango-Ota, where the incident was reportedly said to have happened, was outside its jurisdiction.

Reports also emerged that the comedian was initially taken to a hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos before being moved to another medical facility in Ikeja.

Despite the public interest generated by the incident, Shaggi and his management did not provide a detailed public account of what happened.

Return date remains uncertain

His absence subsequently became a subject of discussion among fans, particularly because of his reduced presence at comedy shows, public functions and on social media.

His latest message has now offered some reassurance without answering all the questions surrounding his disappearance.

For now, Shaggi appears to be taking his return on his own terms, asking his followers to remain patient while indicating that he hopes to reconnect with them fully.

The entertainer became one of Nigeria’s prominent social media comedians through the Broda Shaggi character and later expanded into acting and other entertainment projects.

While he has not announced a specific date for his return, his latest message suggests that he is looking towards a comeback and intends to make up for the time he has spent away from his audience.
