A magistrates’ court in Bindura, Zimbabwe, has sentenced a 32-year-old man to an effective 12 months in prison after he admitted carrying out a brutal razor blade attack on his wife during a domestic dispute.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred on 21 June 2026 at a farm in Bindura after an argument between the couple over allegations of infidelity.

Prosecutors told the court that the man allegedly pretended he wanted to be intimate with his 42-year-old wife before suddenly grabbing her genital area and using a razor blade to inflict serious injuries.

The victim suffered severe bleeding as a result of the attack. Prosecutors said the man later gave her water to wash herself while she was still bleeding.

The accused pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic violence involving physical abuse under Zimbabwe’s Domestic Violence Act.

The court initially sentenced him to 18 months’ imprisonment. However, six months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence during that period, leaving him with an effective prison term of 12 months.

Reacting to the judgment, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe reaffirmed its commitment to protecting victims of gender-based violence, stressing that perpetrators of such offences would continue to face the full weight of the law.
