Cubana Chief Priest Urges Igbo to Rethink Presidential Bid

Published

Businessman and Imo State coordinator of the City Boy Movement, stirred controversy on Sunday, after stating that Igbo people should reconsider their presidential ambitions because they were defeated in the Nigerian Civil War.

He made the remark during a City Boy Movement empowerment programme in Owerri, Imo State, where items such as sewing machines and freezers were distributed to residents. The event was aimed at mobilizing grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Cubana Chief Priest argued that the South-East should pursue political influence through cooperation with the federal government rather than confrontation.

However, critics say referencing the 1967–1970 civil war to discourage Igbo presidential aspirations is insensitive and undermines democratic equality.

Analysts insist every region in Nigeria has a constitutional right to aspire to the presidency regardless of historical conflicts.
