Dan Orbih, PDP Chieftain and Wike Ally, Dies at 64

Dan Orbih, the South-South National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a prominent Edo State politician, has died at the age of 64.

Orbih, a close political ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, died on Monday, August 31, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family.

The statement, signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih on behalf of the family, described the late politician as a beloved brother, husband, father and uncle.

It read in part: “With profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the Almighty God, the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih announce the passing of our beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, who passed away on Monday, 31 August 2026.”

The family said Orbih is survived by his wife, Mrs Florence Orbih; his children, Ms Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his siblings and other members of the extended family.

They appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember the family in their prayers as they come to terms with the loss.

“Further details will be announced in due course. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement added.

Orbih was one of the influential political figures who played a significant role in strengthening Wike’s political influence across the South-South.

He was also associated with the political realignment that followed the 2013 PDP congress, which helped shift the balance of power in Rivers State from former Governor Rotimi Amaechi towards Wike.

His death is expected to be felt across the PDP, particularly among political associates and stakeholders in Edo and the wider South-South region.
