Desmond Elliot Withdraws From Lagos APC House of Assembly Primary Election

Desmond Elliot, has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Surulere I constituency seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly. The development comes amid rising tension and controversy surrounding the party’s primary process in Surulere.

Desmond Elliot announced his withdrawal during the APC primary exercise held at the Paddington Mini Stadium on Western Avenue, alleging intimidation, political victimisation, and denial of access to many of his supporters at the voting venue. According to him, the situation created an atmosphere that could threaten peace and fairness during the exercise.

The lawmaker, who has represented Surulere I since 2015 and was seeking another term in office, stated that he decided to step down in order to avoid violence or any breakdown of law and order.

He also called on APC leaders to ensure transparency and fairness in the conduct of party primaries across Lagos State.

Before the primary election, Elliot had publicly raised concerns over alleged intimidation of his supporters and the reported withdrawal of his security aides.

The contest had attracted significant political attention following growing support for rival aspirant Barakat Odunuga-Bakare within the Surulere APC structure.

Political analysts believe Elliot’s withdrawal may significantly alter the political dynamics within Surulere ahead of the 2027 elections, while also exposing deeper divisions within the Lagos APC ahead of the party’s final candidate selections.
