El-Rufai Arraigned in Abuja Over Alleged Phone Bugging Case

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of illegally intercepting the telephone line of Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

El-Rufai was brought before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on Thursday, where he pleaded not guilty to a five-count amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/99/2026.

The proceedings were, however, briefly stalled during the hearing of his bail application after the court discovered that a document referenced by his defence counsel, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), was not included in the case file.

Following a request by the defence unopposed by prosecuting counsel Oluwole Aladeloye (SAN) the judge stood down the matter to allow the document to be properly filed before the court.

The case is expected to resume once the issue is resolved.

Further details are anticipated as proceedings continue.
