Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a former two-term councillor of the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Council in Lagos State, Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, over his alleged involvement in the sale and trafficking of illegal drugs.

The arrest followed intelligence reports that linked the 45-year-old politician, who currently works as a legislative aide, to illicit drug activities within the area.

According to a statement issued on March 8 by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the suspect was apprehended on Monday, March 2, 2026, during an operation carried out at his residence in Ilado, located in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos.

Babafemi explained that NDLEA operatives conducted a thorough search of the property after his arrest. During the operation, officers discovered a large quantity of illegal substances concealed inside the house.

The search reportedly led to the recovery of about 40 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis which was found stored in one of the rooms in the residence. Some of the substances were also reportedly hidden inside baby diapers in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
