Family Warns Public After Alleged Illegal Sale of Ras Kimono’s Land in Ogun

The family of late reggae legend, Ras Kimono, has issued a public warning over an alleged fraudulent sale of property belonging to his estate in Ogun State.

In a statement released by his daughter, Oge Kimono, the family accused a woman identified as Sybil Amuta, also known as Sybil Onwubuya Ekure, of falsely presenting herself as the musician’s lawful wife in order to sell a plot of land in Ota.

According to the statement, the transaction was reportedly carried out on 17 March 2026, with the land allegedly sold for ₦15 million. The payment, the family claimed, was made into a bank account bearing the woman’s name.

The estate clarified that Sybil Amuta is a former spouse of the late singer, noting that their marriage was legally dissolved in 2005. It further stated that at the time of his death, Ras Kimono was married to Cynthia Dumas, whom he wed in 2007.

Describing the development as deeply troubling, the family stressed that the woman has no legal authority to act on behalf of the estate or dispose of any of its assets. As such, the purported land sale has been declared invalid.

Beyond the legal concerns, the statement also expressed emotional distress over the situation. The family alleged that despite previous financial support extended to the woman and her children to attend the singer’s funeral, she neither appeared nor maintained any connection with the family or his burial site.

They warned that there are indications she may attempt to sell additional plots of land belonging to the estate and urged members of the public, property buyers, and agents to avoid any dealings with her.

“Anyone who engages in such transactions does so at their own risk,” the statement read, adding that legal action would be taken against unauthorised dealings.

The family reaffirmed its commitment to preserving Ras Kimono’s legacy and protecting his assets, vowing to pursue all necessary legal steps to prevent further incidents.
