Footballer Victor Udoh Dies at 21

Former Southampton and Royal Antwerp striker, Victor Udoh, has died at the age of 21 in Nigeria

According to reports from UK media, the young forward was found dead in Abuja, although authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of death. Some early accounts described the situation as suspicious, pending official clarification.

Royal Antwerp, one of Udoh’s former clubs, confirmed his passing in a statement posted on its official social media handle, expressing deep sadness over the loss of the former youth and first-team player.

The Belgian club recalled Udoh’s progress at the team, noting his impressive goal return with the reserve side during the 2023/2024 season, where he scored 12 goals in 21 appearances. He later made his senior debut and went on to feature multiple times for the first team before securing a move to Southampton.

Udoh signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Southampton but did not make a senior appearance during his brief spell at the club, later leaving in search of regular playing time.

Before his move to England, he had also played for Royal Antwerp after beginning his career development at Abuja-based Hypebuzz, where he was regarded as one of the promising young Nigerian talents emerging in Europe.

Tributes have begun to pour in from former teammates and associates, with many expressing shock and disbelief at the news of his passing.

Authorities are yet to release an official report on the circumstances surrounding his death, as investigations are expected to continue.
