Fresh Israeli Airstrikes Rock Beirut as Conflict Deepens

Published

Fresh violence has erupted in Beirut after Israel carried out new airstrikes targeting positions linked to Hezbollah in the early hours of Saturday, according to a report by Reuters.

The Israeli military said the strikes followed evacuation warnings issued to residents in seven neighbourhoods in Beirut’s southern suburbs, an area widely regarded as a Hezbollah stronghold.

Authorities have yet to release details on casualties or the extent of the damage.

The latest bombardment marks another step in the rapidly intensifying confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah, which has worsened in recent weeks amid a broader regional crisis involving Iran, a key backer of the militant group.

Reports indicate that the cross-border violence has become the deadliest spillover from the wider conflict, with more than 1,000 people killed in Lebanon and over one million displaced since early March.

The escalation traces back to attacks launched by Hezbollah against Israel in support of Iran, a move that has further inflamed tensions and raised fears of a prolonged regional conflict.
