Ghana Launches Marrify App to Help Couples Check Partners’ Marital Status

The Ghanaian Ministry of Gender has launched a new application designed to help prospective couples verify the marital status of their partners before tying the knot.

The application, known as Marrify, was unveiled at a ceremony attended by Ghana’s Minister of Gender, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.

The initiative was launched in partnership with MarryRight, an agency that specialises in family law and marriage-related matters.

According to Lartey, Marrify is intended to give people considering marriage access to important information that could help them make better-informed decisions before committing to a union.

She said the application would also promote relationships founded on honesty and mutual respect, while supporting efforts to prevent gender-based violence.

Lartey described the launch as an opportunity for prospective couples to approach marriage with greater awareness and responsibility.

The initiative comes amid growing calls for greater transparency and informed decision-making among couples before marriage, particularly where undisclosed existing relationships or marriages could create serious problems later.

Through Marrify, the ministry hopes to encourage prospective spouses to carry out appropriate checks and have greater clarity about their partners before taking the significant step of getting married.
