The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the killing of Alaba Excel Abbey, campaign coordinator of the state governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s campaign organisation.
It was gathered that Abbey who was the returning officer for Ward 10 in the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state was shot dead by gunmen at his home in Supare Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed Abbey’s death said that the police had launched an investigation into his killing.
The police spokesperson, “The state command is aware of the incident (killing) but investigation is ongoing to unravel all that happened.”
Daily Trust reports that a younger brother of Abbey, Samuel Abbey, also confirmed the sad development and revealed that the politician was shot in front of his house.
Till his assassination, Abbey was the ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF).
Reacting to his killing, the campaign organisation which condemned Abby’s killing, called on security agencies in the state to fish out his killers and bring them to justice.
The campaign organisation in a statement issued by its spokesperson, said, “Excel had been a resourceful coordinator for the Aiyedatiwa campaign organisation in Ward 10 of Supare and was never known to be violent and never had any history of a local or domestic dispute.
“We urge the police authorities to step up investigations into his gruesome murder and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.”
