Gunmen Kill Two Sons of MACBAN South-East Chairman in Enugu, Slaughter 40 Cattle

Two sons of the South-East Zonal Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Haruna Sale, have reportedly been killed after suspected gunmen attacked a cattle settlement in Oheoyya Community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The victims, identified as Ahmadu and Umaru Sale, were allegedly shot dead during the attack, which reportedly occurred at about 5 p.m. on Saturday. The assailants were also said to have slaughtered approximately 40 cattle belonging to members of the association before fleeing the scene.

The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of livestock farmers and herders operating in the area.

Confirming the attack in a statement, MACBAN’s National Deputy Director-General, Gidado Siddiki, described the killings as a brutal assault on innocent citizens engaged in legitimate livestock business.

According to the association, unidentified armed men invaded the cattle settlement, killing the two brothers before turning on the animals.

MACBAN expressed appreciation to the Enugu State Government and security agencies for their efforts in recovering the victims’ bodies from a nearby forest, allowing their families to perform Islamic burial rites in accordance with their faith.

The association, however, urged the authorities to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested and prosecuted.

As of the time of filing this report, the Enugu State Police Command had not officially confirmed the attack or announced any arrests in connection with the incident.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful, as calls and other attempts to reach him did not yield a response.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, while residents and members of the association continue to await the outcome of security investigations.
