Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha Celebrates One Year in Office, Highlights Achievements

It is no longer scoop that the Right Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, representing the good people of Okigwe North at the Federal House of Assembly ousted her contender, Hon. Kingsley Onwubuariri via court injunction and bye election, which she won outrightly with thunderous margin in early 2020.

She was declared winner, and momentarily sworn in on the 27th January, 2020. She assumed office immediately to champion the course and the betterment of her constituency at the Green chambers. However, It was in the facade and vicissitude scenario of the pandemic that sauntered her mainstay. It was the time of the dreadful COVID 19, a deadly virus that subjected all Nations almost into comatose, undaunted and in fidgeted, Hon. Princess forged on to make her mark on the acid test of time.

The lawmakers in the country quickly responded and resolved at playing part to cushion the COVID 19 menace. They unanimously agreed let go part of their 2months salaries for government at the centre to cater for the affected masses. It was precisely her second months in office, and our amiable and delectable woman of substance let go her salaries for the wellbeing of the citizenry.

Hon. Princess Miriam didn’t ceased there, she went to her constituency and shared palliative as expected of a good leader. The efforts was geared at safeguarding life and eradicating hunger, which was eminent during the scourge of COVID 19 that begets unexpected lockdown nationwide.

She remained one of the notable lawmakers that believes in grassroots development, hence we dropped her email address handle, compelling all unemployed graduates within her constituency to send in their CV. And fact has it that in her magnanimous act, she’d helped many people in her constituency to secure federal government appointments, and she is not abating till many gain full employment.

In face of the global recession and economic down-turn, every government looks for avenue to leverage and improve its economy stability, Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha came up with a Cannabis Control Bill, on non Psychotic Components of the Cannabis at the Federal House of Assembly. She enlightened many of its significance on Research and medicinal purposes, telling them that if the bill is okayed, it will give succour to over 5M people through employment in the sector, and over 1Billon dollars to be made annually through the exploration. She pointed out countries like United States of America ( USA) Canada, Uruguay, Germany etc have been harnessing on the Cannabis and making huge monetary values. As we speaks, the bill has passed its 2nd reading.

Another Hon. Princess Miriam great achievements lies in the area of redirecting the unbalanced sharing of palliative in country. Imo State for long had been marginalized over palliative and incentives sharing formulas. It was observed that during the sharing of money to people that are relatively poor in the country, Imo State had just 5,000 slots as compared to States like Jigawa, Gombe, Kwara et al that have over 25,000 slots each. Hon. Princess Miriam frowned against this inhuman act before the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq, stressing that the data used doesn’t justify the trust position of figures therein. The Federal government because our Hon. Princess Miriam’s inputs immediately reverse and increase the beneficiary numbers in Imo State. It wasn’t her beat, but she swung into action and nipped in the bud of undue injustice.

The proactive and intelligent nature embedded in our quiescent lawmaker Hon. Princess Miriam enabled the authority to spot her instantly amongst all. She has proved herself and worth, she had shown capacity and doggedness as in true leader, hence they bequeaths her with some numerous roles and National task. The first one was to find lasting solution to the imbroglio between Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige and the Sacking of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund ( NSITF ) by the Minister, over alleged misappropriation of 48Billion Naira via fake contracts by the board. As the Head Committee to generate modalities, she did perfectly well, her recommendations were adopted and the sacked NSITF staffers were reinstated and the government commended her uniqueness at solving the problem.

In another development, She was appointed once again as Deputy Committee Head to send blueprint on how best to relocate Oil and Gas Farm tanks outside the cosmopolitan areas of places like Lagos, Portharcourt. Warri, Akwa Ibom, Imo State etc, because of the insistence and unabated explosion cum health hazard nature of the Oil Tanks. Hon Serguis Ogun, the Head Committee and our Hon. Princess have visited the areas, and soonest they will provide a workable mechanism to fixing the predicaments.

The embittered EndSars saga led to another called to duty as Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha was appointed as part of the legislators that met with the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Oshinbajo to harmonize the lose end and workout directives to curbing the agitation and civil unrest in the country. Hon. Miriam as a member of the Youth Parliamentarian, performed credibly well with her Team, as today, the government had set up tribunal who are taking cursory look into offenders, the best punishment they deserved, and how best to compensate the aggrieved ones affected in society.

We do discerned that last year was characterized with so many unprecedented challenges, which affected the spending nature of individuals, corporate bodies and government. She didn’t allow that affect her set aside goals in her constituency, she ensures that Umunachi Primary School, in Onuimo Local government area had a facelift. She renovated and ensure that school had a total new look, the record is there for scrutiny.

Hon. Princess Miriam knew that her connectivity at the National grid will pave way for unimaginable development. She adopted that simplicity and systematically secured the approval and the reconstruction of Owerri / Okigwe Zone that has been abandoned for ages. The road is now undergoing repair and reconstruction.

In Nigeria, people with disabilities have cried unceasingly over neglects by all, touched by their plights, Right Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of National House of Assembly appointed Hon. Princess Miriam to take in depth steps on what the country need to do so as to accommodates all Rights and Privileges rightly due for all humanity. And also to make it pertinent that the UN Prohibition Act on people with disabilities are drawn out for proper execution. Our Hon. Miriam Onuoha has not found wanting in this capacity and remarkable duty as Head Committee on Physically Challenged and Disabilities.

She has really proved her legislative acumen in all holistic manner, the people of Okigwe North have never had it splendid till her emergence. She has linked able sons and daughters of her constituency in diaspora with those in Nigeria, on how best to develop the Zone. She hasn’t performed below expectations, hence her impacts are being felt within and outside her domain. She conspicuously stand out as an exemplary leader with unalloyed desire to ensure that her constituency had the best in the dividends of democracy. She has done diligently well in her one year in office, and the subsequent years looks green and more fruitful to all her constituency.
