How Come No Arrest Has Been Made? – Tinubu Grills Security Chiefs Over Benue Killings

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the failure of Nigeria’s security agencies to arrest those responsible for the recurring killings in Benue State.Travel guides for Nigeria

During a visit to the state on Wednesday, Tinubu addressed a meeting with stakeholders and top security officials, questioning why no suspects had been apprehended despite the persistent violence.

He pointedly asked why no arrests had been made, directing his concern at the heads of the country’s top security and intelligence agencies.

Present at the meeting were the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed; and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, among others.

Tinubu urged the security chiefs to urgently identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the violence, which has led to the deaths of hundreds and the displacement of thousands in the state.

The president’s remarks come amid growing public outrage over the continued attacks in Benue, often attributed to armed herders and farmers.

“How come no arrest has been made? I expect there should be arrests of those criminals,” the President said.

President Tinubu called on the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and said, “Thank you very much. I watched your comments and I know you can’t be tired of staying in the bush and Oloyede and Air Marshal, thank all of you. But we need to keep our ears to the ground.”

“Let’s get those criminals. Let’s get them out. So DG NIA and DG SSS (State Security Service), retreat your information channels, and let’s have tangible intelligence that this will not occur again. Thank you very much,” he said.

President Tinubu visited the state on a one-day trip to commiserate with the people of Yelewata following a recent massacre in the area, allegedly carried out by herdsmen.
