Just In, Fire Engulfs WAEC HQTRS In Yaba Lagos

A fire outbreak has been reported early this morning wednesday at the West African Examination Council (WAEC) Yaba, National Office, Lagos.

The fire was said to have started by 6.50 am this early morning.

IndepthNews learnt that firefighters from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) have arrived the scene of the incident to extinguish the fire as of the time of filing this report.

By 7.15 am the inferno which started by the midsection of the building have been curtailed by firefighters.

An eyewitness said a staff of the Council believed to have been trapped in between some floors was observed attempting to jump through the window of the 12-floor magnificent building to escape being suffocated.

The cause of the fire was alleged to be power surge in one of the offices which got out of control.

None of the Council officials could be reached for further comments.
