Just In, Former Oyo State Governor Alao Akala Dead @71

Former governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, is dead. He joined his ancestors in the early hours of Wednesday in Ogbomoso aged 71.

Alao Akala, was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and governor of Oyo state between 2007 and 2011.

Akala was also a deputy governor under former governor Rashidi Ladoja between 2003 and 2006, and when Chief Ladoja was impeached he became the acting governor.

Developing Story, Bishop Kukah Church Attacked By Gunmen, Priests And Others Abducted In Sokoto

Early Wednesday Gunmen broke into one of the parishes presided over by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan-Kukah, The PUNCH has learnt.

Punch correspondent gathered that the armed hoodlums kidnapped two priests and two others in the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambo, in the Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Kukah’s Sokoto Diocese covers Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi States.

The Director, Social Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Rev. Fr Christopher Omotosho, confirmed the development with our correspondent on Wednesday morning.

He said the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto is under attack and no information has been gotten as to the whereabouts of the abductees.

 

Omotosho said, “As at midnight of today, 25th May, 2022, gunmen broke into the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambo, Kafur LGA of Katsina State.

“The parish priest and his assistant Rev. Frs. Stephen Ojapa, MSP, and Oliver Okpara and two boys in the house were kidnapped.

“No information as to their whereabouts. Kindly pray for their safety and release.”

When contacted, the spokesman for Katsina State Police Command, Gambo Isah, said, “Let me find out.”

On May 14, rioting hoodlums  vandalised some parishes presided over by Kukah in Sokoto following his condemnation of the gruesome murder of Deborah Yakubu by her Muslim colleagues.

The 200-level Home Economics student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto was alleged to have  blaspheme  against Prophet Muhammed.

Some parts of Kukah’s church buildings and a bus was set ablaze in one of the premises.

The Sokoto assumed religious riot has extended to some parts of Bauchi and Abuja in the last few days while security agents and some northern governors have warned against religious violence.

Osun State, Court Affirms Senator Ademola Adeleke As The Authentic PDP’S Candidate For Governorship Election

A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo has comfirmed Senator Ademola Adeleke as the real candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the July 16  gubernatorial election in Osun State.

Justice Nathaniel Emmanuel made the declaration on Wednesday while delivering a ruling in a suit filed by a factional candidate of the PDP, Prince Dotun Babayemi.

Babayemi has asked the court to recognise him as the authentic candidate of the Party following the parallel primaries held on March 9.

Explosion In Sabon Gari, Kano State, Attributed Gas Explosion.

The alleged bomb explosion in a kano suburb, have been attributed to gas explosion.

Reports from AriseTv said at least four lives have been lost to the explosion.

According to Kano State Police Commissioner Sama’ila Dikko,  the explosion that hit Sabon Gari area of the state,  was gas explosion – not bomb.

The incident occurred near a school, and parents and guardians were running helter-skelter to take away their children from the school premises.

A burnt body of a victim was lying motionless on the ground. Before going to the press the number of casualties are yet to be ascertained.
