Kano Hisbah Bans Mobile Movie Download Business Over Violation of Islamic Teachings

Kano State Hisbah Board has announced a statewide ban on the downloading and distribution of films through mobile phones, saying the move is intended to safeguard public morality and uphold Islamic values.

The directive, which takes immediate effect, applies across all 44 local government areas of the state.

The Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr Mujahid Aminuddeen, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday. He said the decision followed growing concerns over the circulation of pornographic films and other video materials considered offensive to Islamic teachings and the cultural norms of Kano State.

According to him, the board has already deployed Hisbah personnel across the state to ensure strict compliance with the new directive through routine patrols and enforcement operations.

“The Hisbah Board has banned the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the 44 local government areas in the state,” Aminuddeen said.

He warned that anyone found violating the order would face legal action in line with the laws of Kano State.

Aminuddeen also urged those engaged in the business to explore alternative and lawful means of earning a living, stressing that the measure is aimed at protecting young people from exposure to harmful and indecent content.

He maintained that the increasing level of moral decline among some youths is partly driven by the consumption of obscene films and videos, adding that the board remains committed to preserving the state’s religious and cultural values.
