King Charles Hates Football, Prince William Reveals

Prince William has revealed that his father, King Charles III, is not a football fan, joking that the monarch “hates football” during a light-hearted appearance on the podcast hosted by NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce.

The episode, released on Friday, focused largely on football and the upcoming FIFA World Cup rather than the high-profile wedding celebrations of Travis Kelce and pop superstar Taylor Swift, which were taking place later the same day.

During the conversation, the Prince of Wales, a long-time supporter of Premier League club Aston Villa, was asked whether his passion for football had been inspired by his father.

“Absolutely not. My father hates football,” William replied with a smile.

The discussion then turned to England’s progress at the tournament. William said he would gladly travel to the United States if the Three Lions reached the World Cup final.

Asked by Travis Kelce whether he would make the trip across the Atlantic should England secure a place in the final, the prince responded: “Definitely.”

“If we’re in the final, maybe see you both there,” he added.

England’s hopes of lifting the trophy remain alive after a strong performance led by captain Harry Kane, whose late brace against DR Congo secured the team’s place in the Round of 16. The Three Lions are scheduled to face Mexico at the iconic Azteca Stadium on Sunday.

The podcast was also released during the United States’ Independence Day celebrations, marking 250 years since the country declared independence from Britain.

Reflecting on the historic relationship between the two nations, Travis Kelce jokingly asked the prince whether he was surprised the United States had succeeded in gaining independence.

“There were times… there were times,” William replied with a laugh before adding, “I’d like to think the UK and the US have been together for those 250 years.”

The exchange offered a glimpse into the prince’s sense of humour while highlighting his enduring enthusiasm for football and his support for England’s World Cup campaign.
