Lagos Is Safe For Christmas Festivities – Police Declares

The Lagos State Police Command has reported a notable decline in violent crimes, crediting strengthened community police collaboration, improved operational deployment, and a statewide security exercise for the progress.

Police Commissioner Olohundare Jimoh, speaking at a briefing in Ikeja, assured residents that Lagos remains safe as preparations for the “Detty December” celebrations and year-end travel continue. He praised the public, community groups, and institutions for their cooperation, calling it vital to the state’s improved security.

Jimoh explained that the ongoing ’ember’ security mode, a special operation running from September to December, has helped prevent significant security breaches. He added that the heavy police presence across roads, neighborhoods, and hotspots is intended to maintain safety, not to alarm the public.

Security measures include additional patrols, stop-and-search points, response units, and security posts across the state. The commissioner encouraged Lagosians and visitors to proceed with travel plans confidently, assuring that families and properties are well-protected.

He confirmed that heightened security deployments will continue into the New Year, targeting markets, places of worship, and other high-traffic areas during the festive period.

“Lagos is safe and secure, and we will sustain this security so residents can go about their daily activities without fear,” Jimoh concluded.
