A man armed with a knife has stabbed four young children to death at a daycare centre in Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala, Uganda.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Okello, reportedly gained entry into Ggaba Early Childhood Day School on Thursday, April 2, 2026, by posing as a parent before launching the attack on children aged about two to three years, according to police.

“We confirm a tragic incident at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program school in Makindye Division, Kampala City, where a male suspect brutally stabbed and killed four juveniles,” police spokeswoman Racheal Kawala said.

Authorities disclosed that the attacker fatally stabbed three boys and one girl out of the 14 children present at the facility. “The suspect had visited the nursery last week to seek admission for a child, paid the fees and was told to return this week,” Kawala added.

Following the attack, enraged residents attempted to lynch the suspect as he tried to flee, but security operatives intervened, using tear gas to disperse the crowd before taking him into custody.

“Ten children survived the attack and are already with their parents,” Kawala said. Police say the motive behind the killings is still unknown and investigations are ongoing, while grieving parents and relatives gathered at the scene in tears.
