My Administration Has Done Better Than Those Who Governed Rivers State For Eight Years — Governor Fubara

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has boasted that his government has performed better than the administrations of his predecessors, including the current Federal Capital Territory minister, Nyesom Wike who spent eight years.

The governor made this assertion on Saturday in Ngo Town at the inauguration of the Andoni section of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo Unity Road project, Andoni Local Government Area.

He said his government had improved the quality of lives of people in the state and also invested heavily in infrastructure than the past governments.

While inaugurating the new road project, the governor thanked the former governor of the state, Peter Odili who began the project about a decade ago.

He said, “It doesn’t matter who started it, what is important is today, the section of Unity Road that connects Andoni to the entire local government. When I said entire, and the other two local government areas, Dieogoni and Opopo, came to reality. We have to thank Sir Dr Peter Odili. We have to thank all the successive governments who also contributed before we finally made this day to be. The beauty of it is that we are not owing any dime on this particular project.”

The governor added that the past government of Wike and others had neglected the health sector of the state.

He said, “Also remember that another vital area that we need to touch in our government was mentioned, the issue of hospitals. We are coming there and we will make sure that we attend to those needs. I was in the Governors Forum Meeting on Wednesday. We were given an update, we called it a chart on the medical position of all the states.

“You won’t believe that in that chat, everything that has to do with enrollment, even the level of facilities that is on the ground in that assessment, Rivers State was classified as below benchmark. It’s a pity. It is not something that just happened in a day, it is not something that just happened within my time of my government. No, it is a record, statistics collected over a period. It means that when we will tell you people that our target is education, agriculture, and health care. We did not make any mistakes.

“We know that those key areas are not adequately attended to (by previous governments) and we promise our people that in the next six months, there will be a total change in the health sector of Rivers State.

“The important thing now is to make impacts. Like I said the other day, we just started. We started about three or four months ago but I am very happy that if we have to assess ourselves within that three months, we have done better than people who stayed for eight years. I stand to be challenged,” the governor said.
