My Son Is Useless To Society, He Also Killed His Sister — Father of Kano Murder Suspect

The father of the prime suspect in the Dorayi Chiranchi killings in Kano has urged authorities to quickly punish his son, Umar Auwal, without delay. Umar is accused of killing his aunt, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children at their home in Dorayi Gidan Kwari, sparking widespread outrage.

President Bola Tinubu condemned the brutal attack and ordered an investigation, while the Kano State government announced it would take over prosecution of those arrested in connection with the killings.

Police confirmed Umar is in custody and has confessed to the murders, as well as a separate attack in Tudun Yola where two women were killed and their home set on fire. The victims in the Dorayi incident were identified as Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and Abdussalam (1½).

In a radio interview, Malam Auwal distanced himself from his son, calling him “useless to society” and insisting he should be executed instead of jailed. He claimed Umar had previously killed his younger sister and even removed her eyes.

Auwal praised the police for their handling of the case and said he had already “sacrificed” his son. He added that neither he nor Umar’s mother would attend any court proceedings during the trial.
