Naval Commander Reportedly Redeployed After Arrest of Osun APC Candidate

A Naval Commander who reportedly ordered the arrest of an All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly candidate in Osun State has allegedly been redeployed, while the politician has been released.

The development follows the reported arrest of Hon. Babatunde Komolafe Festus, the APC candidate for Atakumosa East/West, who was allegedly apprehended by Nigerian Navy personnel in Ifewara after a firearm was reportedly discovered during a search of an APC campaign vehicle.

According to sources cited by SaharaReporters, the naval commander was redeployed shortly after the arrest generated public controversy, while Komolafe was released following what the sources described as “orders from above.”

However, no immediate official statement from the Nigerian Navy confirming the redeployment or explaining the circumstances surrounding the politician’s release was available at the time of reporting.

The development comes just days before the Osun governorship election, amid heightened political tension and increased security deployment across the state.
