Nigeria Begins Evacuating Citizens from Iran Through Armenia Amid Middle East Conflict

The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the evacuation of willing Nigerian citizens from the Islamic Republic of Iran, coordinating their safe passage across the Republic of Armenia border, as regional hostilities escalate following renewed military confrontations between Iran, the United States, and Israel. The evacuation initiative was confirmed on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 by Hon. Abike Dabiri‑Erewa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), in a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account.

Dabiri‑Erewa explained that officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are actively escorting citizens who wish to leave Iran to ensure their smooth and secure transit into Armenia, where Nigerian diplomatic staff are stationed to receive and assist evacuees. She reiterated that no Nigerian has been harmed so far amid the conflict and that the operation is voluntary for those seeking departure.

The evacuation reflects Nigeria’s broader emergency diplomatic response to safeguard its nationals caught in the crossfire of a complex Middle East crisis, with embassy officials working closely with Armenian authorities to facilitate humanitarian corridors out of the conflict zone.
