President Bola Tinubu has announced the launch of Nigeria’s Climate and Green Industrialisation Investment Playbook, designed to unlock between $25 billion and $30 billion in climate finance annually.

He made the disclosure on Tuesday while speaking at the ongoing Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) in the United Arab Emirates.

Tinubu said the initiative demonstrates Nigeria’s determination to move from climate ambitions to measurable action, while aligningz aliging climate goals with energy access, economic growth, job creation and social inclusion.

According to him, climate action should be seen as a development opportunity rather than a burden.

“The connections between climate and the global economy, health, energy systems and food security must now shape the way we govern and cooperate,” the president said, adding that Nigeria stands with the global community in moving from ambition to delivery.

He noted that Nigeria has strengthened its climate governance through regulatory measures, including the National Carbon Market Activation Policy and the launch of the National Carbon Registry to improve transparency and investor confidence.

Tinubu also highlighted the Electricity Act 2023, which he said supports decentralised energy delivery to rural and underserved communities.

The president disclosed that Nigeria is leveraging partnerships to deploy artificial intelligence to boost energy efficiency and innovation.

He added that the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority has launched a $500 million Distributed Renewable Energy Fund, while the World Bank’s $750 million DARES programme aims to expand clean electricity access to over 17.5 million people.

Tinubu said Nigeria is deepening access to green finance through initiatives such as a $500 million Climate Investment Platform and a National Climate Change Fund targeting $2 billion.

He also cited the oversubscription of the 2025 Sovereign Green Bond and Lagos State Green Bond as signs of investor confidence.
