Grammy award winning Afrobeat singer, Burna Boy has made a strong statement about Nigeria’s colonial past, claiming that Nigeria was never truly a nation but rather a “company” created to benefit the British Empire.

In his words, “Nigeria has never been a country; we were not even supposed to be Nigerians in the first place. We are the Royal Niger Company. So, we are basically a company for the British to take resources for Britain. We’re collateral goods and services to Britain.”
