Nigerian Man Arrested For Killing a Fellow Nigerian During a Fight in The U.K

A 32-year-old Nigerian man, Maxwell Oguanaya, has been charged with murder following the death of 41-year-old Taiwo Ekerin after a violent altercation in Lewisham, south-east London.

Police were called to Lewisham High Street at about 4:40 a.m. on May 24 after receiving reports of a fight. Officers arrived at the scene and found Ekerin with a serious head injury. He was treated by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service before being rushed to hospital for further medical care.

Despite efforts to save his life, Ekerin succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on May 30, nearly a week after the incident. His family has been informed, and specialist officers are providing support to his next of kin.

Following investigations, Oguanaya, who resides on Eastfield Road in Enfield, was arrested on June 4 on suspicion of murder. He was formally charged the following day and appeared before Ealing Magistrates’ Court on June 5.

The court remanded him in custody pending further proceedings. He is scheduled to make his next court appearance on June 9 as the murder case continues.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault remain ongoing.
