Nigerian NHS worker faces ban for driving against traffic to beat traffic jam in the U.K

A Nigerian NHS worker in Manchester, United Kingdom, Innocent Ayodele, is facing a possible driving ban after allegedly driving against the flow of traffic on a motorway slip road while trying to avoid a traffic jam.

Ayodele was stopped by police after reportedly driving the wrong way along an entry slip road to the M61.

During the incident, he reportedly told officers that he was attempting to get home to his pregnant wife after finishing work.

However, the police officer who stopped him described the manoeuvre as dangerous, warning that Ayodele could have collided head-on with another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

The case was subsequently heard at Preston Magistrates’ Court, where Ayodele apologised for his actions.

The court heard that he already has nine penalty points on his driving licence, leaving him at risk of being disqualified from driving.

Ayodele is expected to return to court for sentencing, when the magistrates will decide whether to impose a driving ban or any other penalty.

The incident has renewed concerns about the dangers of wrong-way driving on motorways, where vehicles travel at high speeds and even a brief error can have devastating consequences.

Motoring safety experts have repeatedly warned that driving against the flow of traffic can lead to head-on collisions, with potentially fatal consequences.
