Nigerians Not Being Deported For Dating South African Women — SA Consul-General

South African Consul-General to Nigeria, Prof. Bobby Moroe, has dismissed claims that Nigerians are being attacked or forced out of South Africa because of their relationships with South African women.

According report, Moroe said South Africa is a constitutional democracy where people are free to make personal choices, including who they love or marry.

“Love knows no borders,” he said, noting that South African men also date women from other countries. He added that South African women may have their own reasons for preferring Nigerian men, describing such relationships as part of cultural exchange.

Moroe also rejected claims that South African men generally dislike Nigerians, citing his friendships with people from Anambra and Abia states and his interest in Nigerian culture.

He, however, acknowledged concerns over some foreign nationals, including Nigerians and Ghanaians, who allegedly live in South Africa illegally or fail to respect the country’s laws.

“I do not think any country in the world would allow anybody to live within its borders illegally,” he said, arguing that raising concerns about undocumented migrants should not automatically be labelled xenophobic.

Moroe also criticised the perception that “xenophobia” is synonymous with South Africa, noting that the country remains one of Africa’s biggest hosts of foreign nationals and has welcomed migrants for decades.
