Osun Election: Farmers, Butchers Endorse Adeleke

Ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, groups representing farmers and butchers have endorsed incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term.

The farmers, under the All Farmers of Nigeria (AFAN), made their position known on Saturday at the Osun State Government House in Osogbo, citing what they described as the governor’s favourable policies towards the agricultural sector.

The group commended Adeleke’s administration for purchasing tractors, completing the farmers’ secretariat, distributing farm inputs and providing thousands of cocoa, cashew and palm-oil seedlings.

Speaking for the farmers, Moshood Adepoju said they had been neglected under previous administrations but claimed Adeleke had improved their situation. He also alleged that some farmers’ leaders were arrested over pressure to oppose the governor, a claim that remains an allegation.

The Osun State Chairman of the Butchers Association, Amoo Afeez, also declared support for Adeleke, citing what he described as achievements across different sectors.

Farmers present at the event subsequently moved a motion endorsing the governor’s re-election, which was unanimously adopted by those in attendance.

Responding, Adeleke thanked the groups and promised additional agricultural machinery, farm inputs and processing factories if re-elected.

The endorsements come amid a competitive election involving 14 candidates. Interestingly, the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service separately endorsed APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, illustrating the competing political alignments ahead of Saturday’s poll.
